From a pure trading company to become a manufacturer
Joining the construction materials supplying market since 2006, Vinh Hung Trading, Consulting, and Construction Company (Vinh Hung JSC) has become a big brand in the field. In the beginning phase, Vinh Hung focused on trading products for the construction of bridges and roads and has quickly established its prestige in the market. By 2012, the company received technology transfer and implementation of expansion joints from USL - the United Kingdom with the first project Truong Xa bridge on Highway 39 - Hung Yen. At this stage, the company also conducted research and development of new products such as Feba, BEJ expansion joints, waterproof products ... and set foot in foreign investment projects.
In 2014, the Board decided to invest in a factory with an area of 5,000 m2 in Tan Quang Industrial Zone - Hung Yen to produce, localize the expansion joint products, rather than import from foreign brands. Following the success of the product strategy, in 2016, Vinh Hung continued to build a new modern factory on an area of 15,000 m2 in Pho Noi B Industrial Park - Hung Yen to self-produce. From the position of a purely commercial “Buyer”, Vinh Hung has become the first “Manufacturer” of Vietnam to have the capacity of synchronized production: prestressed anchors, bridge bearings, expansion joints, bridge rails and so much more to supply for the domestic traffic and industrial construction market.
Speaking to The Traffic Newspaper, Mr. Vo Ta Luong, General Director of Vinh Hung Company, said “Vinh Hung's factory is invested in modern machinery and equipment, including materials testing machines, tensile testing machines of tensile load for bridge bearings that can extend to 1,000 tons. In addition, the factory has a quality management system that meets the ISO 9001: 2015 standards certified by Bureau Veritas, which is approved by the Quacert Certification Center. In the process of building management system according to ISO 14001: 2015." Mr. Vo shared.

In the previous periods of time, transportation constructions especially those using ODA capital, materials for the construction of bridges were mainly imported from abroad. In recent years, the Government has called for increased uses of domestic producing materials and goods in bidding for development investment projects and procurement activities using the country’s capital. Therefore, many enterprises have boldly invested in production to localize products to serve the domestic market's needs.
Vinh Hung original products have been presented in many key projects such as Hieu 2 bridge project - Nghe An, Ha Noi - Ho Chi Minh City Road Safety Improvement Project, Tan An - Long An Bridge Project, Phu Hau - Viet Tri bridge project, Dong Mon bridge project – branch project of the intersection 319 - Dong Nai, Nam Cuoc - Sa Pa hydroelectric project ... Especially in Nhon Metro project - Hanoi Railway Station, a major project of the capital Hanoi with a total investment of nearly 1.2 billion euros, Vinh Hung has become a contractor to supply over 600 tons of cables, 1,100 sets of anchors and 70 bridge bearings for two packages CP01 and CP02 of the project. Notably, to be on the list of suppliers to provide solutions for the project, Vinh Hung has overcome many big domestic and international contractors using products originating from foreign countries.
Talking to The Traffic Newspaper about the quality assessment of Vinh Hung bridge bearings which are produced and supplied to the project, Mr. Nguyen Cao Minh, Head of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (representative of the project investor ) said that each product when entering the project must meet the very high technical requirements of the strict project’s quality standard. "The supervision hires foreign companies, the process of testing the products is very strict so that the products could meet all criteria to participate in the project," Mr Nguyen said. He continued “In the previous time, many foreign bearing suppliers were involved bidding to supply products for the project, but they are all failed because they did not meet the quality or delivery criteria. "However, some of the products that were produced domestically meet the requirements, including Vinh Hung JSC’s solution. The company is also the unit that has provided many bridge bearings products for the major projects of the transportation industry, "said Mr. Nguyen.
According to Mr. Minh, the project using domestic products produced by local producers brings many benefits, not only promoting domestic production but also creating incentives for businesses to innovate technology and raise the production capacity to meet the market demand. "The technical specifications of the products have been detailed in the design documentation of the project, so the main contractor shall be responsible for selecting and supplying products that meet these requirements. The main contractor has many sources of materials, but we prefer to use the domestic suppliers which can itself manufacture and meet the requirements, such as Vinh Hung, " Minh shared.
He continued that the product must meet the technical standards specified in the contract and supervision consultants are responsible for inspecting and monitoring the quality of materials. "The process of product inspection at the project was done very closely by the foreign consultant, from the paper check, the actual capacity to inspect the factory in all processes to ensure quality, the origin of the product and the experiment according to the prescribed standards" Nguyen emphasized.
Mr. Vo Ta Luong, General Director of Vinh Hung Company added “Metro Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station is a project with strict quality control procedures and any specific technical requirements such as the mechanical details of the bridge bearing products must be galvanized before coating the surface, the distance from the bottom of the girder to the small post-tensioning cable, so the socket design is more special than the regular bearings. "Being the winning bidder for the project, Vinh Hung's capacity production has demonstrated to the investor, supervision consultants, and the main contractor because the project had previously approved bridge products of a foreign source but when the test procedure, it did not meet the quality requirements of the project, " Luong shared.
