VIETNAM WILL HAVE THE BIGGEST SEA BRIDGE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

(Dan Tri) - On February 15, the Ministry of Transport will officially start the construction of Tan Vu - Lach Huyen bridge (Hai Phong city). The bridge has a total length of 15km with a sea crossing section of 5.44km, which will make it the longest sea crossing bridge in Vietnam and the largest in Southeast Asia.

Estimated time of construction completion is 2017. Tan Vu - Lach Huyen Bridge is part of Tan Vu - Lach Huyen Motorway Project, which is a very important and necessary component of Lach Huyen port infrastructure construction project.

Tan Vu - Lach Huyen motorway project uses ODA loans from Japanese Government and reciprocal capital ofmVietnamese Government with a total investment of over VND 11,800 billion. The length of the whole route is more than 15km, passing through Hai An and Cat Hai districts of Hai Phong city, with the starting point of the project at Tan Vu intersection (Km100+891 Hai Phong highway) and the end point adjacent to Lach Huyen port.

The bridge over the sea is 5.44 km long, including 75 spans on the Hai An side, each span is 60m long; 4 main spans, 2 spans are 150m long, 2 others are 9.5m long and 9 spans on the Cat Hai side, each span is 60m long. This bridge has a design speed of 80km/h with 4 lanes and 2 safety strips. The path is 10.19km long with the scale of a plain grade III road, the road cross section is 29.5km wide.

Once completed, Tan Vu - Lach Huyen Bridge will be the longest sea-crossing bridge in Vietnam and one of the largest sea-crossing bridges in Southeast Asia. The project aims to reduce costs and travel time, reduce traffic accidents and risks of barge transportation; reduce accidents and traffic congestion at Nam Trieu canal; stimulate industrial development in coastal Hai Phong and promote tourism activities in Cat Ba archipelago.

The project is expected to be built in 36 months. When completed, the work will connect the international gateway port of Hai Phong: Tan Vu - Lach Huyen with key areas of the Northeast economic corridor, as well as solve the problem of traffic congestion in Dinh Vu and Cat Hai industrial zone of Hai Phong City.

Yesterday afternoon (February 11), the Project Management Board 2, the Ministry of Transport and the consortium of Japanese and Vietnamese construction contractors signed package 6 under Tan Vu - Lach Huyen highway project.
