Currently, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has put tolls into operation on three highways: Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Noi Bai - Lao Cai, and TP. Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay with a total length of 350km. These high-speed projects, when put into use, have been brought into full play, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, national security and defense for localities passing through in particular and the whole country in general.

VEC was assigned by the Ministry of Transport to be the investor of 5 expressway projects with a total length of 550km, a total investment of 125,572 billion VND. Up to now, VEC has put into operation and collected toll of highways: Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Noi Bai - Lao Cai, and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay with a total length of 350km. According to the plan, from now to 2018, VEC will put into operation the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway (2018) which is 139.52km long, and Ben Luc - Long Thanh (2019) which is 57.8km long.

Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway is the first expressway in the Northern Delta region. The project is a part of the North-South expressway, extending the expressway from Bac Giang through Bac Ninh - Hanoi - Phap Van - Cau Gie - Ninh Binh to Thanh Hoa, Vinh ..., which contributes to completing the planning of the national expressway system. Since it was put into operation, the project has strengthened the transport capacity of the southern corridor of the southern region of the Northern Delta.

From 30th June 2012 (full traffic clearance) to the end of February 2016, the project has served 26 million vehicles, average traffic of 22-23 thousand vehicles/day, basically ensured safety and convenience, annually increased of more than 5 million vehicles circulates on the road, helped vehicles save 15% of transport costs compared to circulating along the old national highway.

With the largest length among the highways in Vietnam, Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway is a particularly important project in the Kunming - Hai Phong road corridor, part of a cooperation program between 6 countries in the Mekong sub-region including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and China. This expressway is not only for the purpose of serving socio-economic development, ensuring national security and defense, but also to connect economic centers and industrial parks of Hanoi Capital with the provinces: Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, and Lao Cai and to contribute to the formation of Vietnam's expressway network which was approved by the Prime Minister.

According to statistics from the management unit, exploiting and operating the route, from the date of traffic clearance on the whole route (September 21, 2014) to the end of February 2016, the total traffic volume of vehicles on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway reached 9.6 million vehicles, the average traffic volume was 17-18 thousand vehicles/day. It has basically ensured safety and convenience, with the growth rate of traffic volume was about 40%. The project has been put into operation and has been bringing positive results, reducing the travel time from Hanoi to Lao Cai to 3.5 hours compared to 7 hours formerly, saving 20 - 30% of transportation costs for vehicle owners and was estimated to save about 1,800 billion VND per year for the society.

Another high-speed project in the South invested by VEC is Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay project which is also promoting very positive results.

Statistics have shown that, after more than 1 year of operation, from February 2015 (the time of traffic clearance on the whole route) to the end of February 2016, the total traffic volume on this highway reached over 17 million. vehicle, average traffic volume per day was from 28 to 29 thousand vehicle turns, safety and convenience were ensured.

Representatives of VEC said that, according to the assessment of transport companies, circulating on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway helps them save 30% of the cost compared to the route Hanoi Highway - National highway 51. For units with a high frequency of driving, expressway transport is even more efficient when 90% of the vehicle owners assess the freight rate as acceptable...

Especially, since the traffic clearance on the whole route, vehicles go from the city. Ho Chi Minh to Dau Giay junction (intersection of National Highway 1A and direction to Lien Khuong) is about 70km long if following the old route, traffic time takes 3 hours due to frequent congestion; but if you follow the expressway, it will shorten 20km and the time is only one hour, reduce more than two hours compared to formerly.
