Ru Ri Pass Railway Tunnel Project on the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City Route

Built in 1935, the railway tunnel through Ru Ri Pass on the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City line (from Km1305+950 to Km1306+481 in Vinh Luong Commune, Nha Trang City) has severely deteriorated over decades of operation. In particular, the slopes at both tunnel portals feature heavily weathered geology, posing high safety risks. Landslides hit the Ru Ri Pass tunnel section at least 2 to 3 times a year, disrupting rail traffic and safety. Landslides occur even more frequently in the northern portal area due to its complex terrain, creating a constant concern for the railway sector each rainy season.

To address this issue, Railway Management Unit 1 (under Vietnam Railways) selected a positive slope stablization solution using a high-tensile steel wire mesh system combined with shear connectors (Hr30) and anti-erosion triaxial polymer geogrids. Vinh Hung was honored to be selected as the main contractor for this project.

This project marks the initial collaboration between Vietnam Railways and Vinh Hung Trading, Consulting, and Construction Joint Stock Company.
