BEN LUC – LONG THANH HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION
On the morning of July 19, the Ministry of Transport held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway project in Binh Thuan hamlet, Binh Khanh commune, Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended.
Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway Project is a national key project on the North-South expressway axis, the largest expressway project in the South with a total length of 57.1km, passing through Ho Chi Minh City, Long An, Dong Nai provinces, invested by Vietnam Expressway Corporation.
The project's starting point intersects with Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway and Ring road 3. The end point of the route phase 1 intersects with National Highway 51, phase 2 with Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway. The expressway passing through Long An is 2.7km long, Ho Chi Minh City is 26.4km long, and Dong Nai is 28km, designed according to the standard of a class A highway, with 4 lanes and 2 emergency stop lanes, design speed of 100km/h. Among them, there are 20km of bridges and viaducts, especially two large bridges with cable-stayed structures, which are Binh Khanh bridge over Soai Rap river, 2.7km long; and Phuoc Khanh bridge over Long Tau river, 3.18km long.
The total investment in phase 1 is VND 31,320 billion (USD 1.607 billion), of which the loan from Asian Development Bank is USD 636 million, from Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is USD 635 million and from reciprocal capital of the state budget is 337 million USD.
The project plays an important role in promoting socio-economic development of the southern key economic region. The completion of Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway project will help inter-regional traffic in the West and Southeast regions without transiting in Ho Chi Minh City. The route will connect directly to the national highway network, the system of Cai Mep Thi Vai, Sao Mai - Ben Dinh seaports and Long Thanh International Airport. At the same time, it will help reduce traffic pressure on National Highway 51, 1, reduce accidents, shorten the time and traveling, transporting goods journey from Long An to Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and vice versa, thus, promote investment efficiency in industrial zones and seaports in the southern provinces.
The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway project will connect with the Ho Chi Minh City - Vung Tau Expressway (expected) to form a southern economic corridor in the Mekong sub-region extending from Bangkok to Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City - Vung Tau.
The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2018.
