The bridge construction will be started at the latest 2018 if approved by the Government to use Japanese ODA. In the picture, the current My Thuan bridge is crossing the Tien river linking to Tien Giang and Vinh Long

Mr. Le Quoc Dung, Head of Project Management of Project 2 belonging to PMU7 of the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) said, MOT has proposed to the Ministry of Planning and Investment to put My Thuan 2 bridge into the list of Japanese ODA for the period from 2016-2018

“After MOT’s proposal, Ministry of Planning and Investment shall summarize in coordination with Ministry of Finance to submit to the Government for approval. I think it is feasible when two sections of Trung Luong-My Thuan and My Thuan-Can Tho highways have been invested and My Thuan 2 bridge is located in-between these two sections”, Dung said.

According to Mr. Dung, the proposal from PMU7 was sent to MOT a Japanese ODA loan of about 25 billion JPY to execute the My Thuan 2 project.

Related to the project implementation scale, according to PMU7, My Thuan 2 will be located at the river upstream and 1km away from the existing bridge. The total length of the project is 4.05 km, with an intersection point between National Highway 1A and the current road leading to My Thuan Bridge belonging to Tien Giang Province (at km103 + 700), and the endpoint belonging to Vinh Long Province at km. 107 + 750

According to PMU7, the width of the My Thuan 2 bridge will be 32 m (6 lanes in total); the main span will be designed of cable-stayed structures with a span diagram of 240 m + 550 m + 240 m. The approaching section will be built according to the standard of an A-class expressway, 33m wide (6 lanes of traffic) with a design speed of 120 km/h.

However, the construction scale above is only the proposed plan of PMU 7 and still awaits approval from the Government.

By researching via Saigon Economic Times Online, PMU7 previously proposed four options for building My Thuan 2 bridge with the scale of using different capital ranging from 7,119 billion VND to 9,760 billion VND.

In detail, for option 1: the main span bridge with the hammock wire hanged with a total length of 2,240 m, and a total investment of VND 9,760 billion, the payback period is 29 years 5 months.

For option 2, the main span bridge with cable-stayed, the total length of 2,270m with an investment of VND 9,575 billion, repayment within 29 years

For option 3: using hanging cable span like the current My Thuan Bridge, the total length of 2,250 m, with an investment of VND 7,824 billion, payback in 26 years and 5 months.

Finally, for option 4, the main bridge uses a balanced cantilever beat, with a length of 2,310 m, construction investment capital of VND 7,119 billion, a payback of 25 years and 2 months.
