ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE OF REPAIRING THANG LONG BRIDGE SURFACE

After nearly 2 months since the commencement date (16th August 2020), hundreds of engineers and workers on the construction site of repairing the Thang Long bridge surface always had to work hard under inclement weather.

The goal is to promptly complete the project by the end of 2020, synchronously coupling with the Ring Road 3 on the Mai Dich - South Thang Long section, forming a traffic axis connecting the city center to Noi Bai Airport and surrounding areas. Continuously for nearly 2 months, about 270 engineers and workers of the Thanh Hung - Vinh Hung - Phuong Thanh - Thuan An consortium regularly have stuck to the construction site, executing 3 consecutive shifts (24/24h) to complete the project in accordance with the committed schedule (at the end of December 2020).

Each group of workers is concentrating on performing different jobs. One is taking off the old concrete layer on the bridge surface, another is welding the anchor nails on the deck at the positions that have been raked and cleaned. Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (from Dan Phuong district - Hanoi), the leader of the worker's group under the contractor Vinh Hung said, although the workers constantly stay at the site and work all day, even on weekends, the erratic weather greatly affected the progress. Especially on days with heavy rain and strong winds, workers at the construction site must take a break to ensure safety. In the first days of October 2020, the weather in the capital has cooled down so workers are less strenuous.

Thang Long bridge repair project is invested by the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam with a total investment of more than 269 billion VND. In this third overhaul, the existing concrete and adhesive layer on the Thang Long bridge is peeled away for the surface to be covered with new technology. Safety - quality - progress is always a requirement that is seriously implemented by the investor as well as consulting units and contractors. Engineer Nguyen Van Hoi, Director of the Executive Board of the contractor consortium, said that after scratching and cleaning the surface of the bridge, the contractor had to weld a total of 1.5 million anchor nails to the bridge surface. By this point in time, the workload has reached about 15%.

The super-functional concrete mixing plants are a completely new investment. Many modern technologies are applied in this major overhaul, including technologies applied for the first time in Vietnam such as plasma welding technology, connecting the bridge surface steel plate with the super-plastic concrete layer. ... Before mass deployment, this new technology was tested with good results. According to experts, with this technology, the work will have a durability of at least 10 years.

After completion, Thang Long Bridge will synchronously connect with the elevated Ring Road 3, Mai Dich - South Thang Long section which has just been invested to erect by the Ministry of Transport and Transport and will open the connecting arterial route connecting the center of Hanoi to Noi Bai airport and neighboring provinces, which helps to reduce congestion in inner-city areas.
