Speeding Up Waterproofing Works at Phu Thu Tunnel – A Multi-Level Interchange Project Worth VND 1,400 Billion in Ha Nam
The project is managed by the Ha Nam Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board. The main contractor is a joint venture between Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex) and Trung Chinh Trading and Construction Company Limited. Vinh Hung Trading, Consulting and Construction Joint Stock Company serves as the subcontractor, responsible for supplying materials and executing waterproofing works for the Phu Thu tunnel, starting from October 2024.
Waterproofing plays a crucial role in protecting structures from groundwater damage, moisture, leakage, as well as erosion and chemical deterioration.
Waterproofing Plan
The waterproofing system for the Phu Thu tunnel and connecting road is implemented in three layers:
- Layer 1: HDPE membrane applied prior to concrete pouring, fully adhering to the bottom of the tunnel.
- Layer 2: After the concrete structure is complete, a cold-applied self-adhesive modified bitumen membrane is installed on the tunnel walls, pumping station walls, and top slab of the enclosed tunnel.
- Layer 3: A two-component waterproofing layer based on Acrylic Polymer cement is applied to the upper surface of the basement and pile heads.
With proven capacity and extensive experience in tunnel waterproofing across Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Hung has been accelerating progress with the spirit of "overcoming sun and rain." The construction team is operating in "3 shifts, 4 teams", aiming to complete waterproofing works by April 30, 2025.
The Phu Thu Intersection is a critical project for Ha Nam Province and is designed as a 3-level interconnected interchange:
- Level 1: A 6-lane tunnel crossing the Cau Gie – Ninh Binh Expressway, following the revised highway planning.
- Level 2: A roundabout (R=40m) with 4 entry/exit ramps connecting the expressway to the side road of Ring Road 5, facilitating local traffic.
- Level 3: An overpass of Ring Road 5 – Capital Region, built above the Cau Gie – Ninh Binh Expressway.
Upon completion, the project will significantly enhance connectivity and commercial exchange between Ha Nam and other parts of the country. It will also serve as a growth driver and attract further investment. For this reason, the Ha Nam Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board has directed contractors to accelerate the construction schedule, maintain high quality standards, and aim to complete the project by August 2025 - in celebration of Vietnam’s National Day on September 2 and the 21st Ha Nam Provincial Party Congress.
