An Overview of Slope Stabilization Solutions on a Key Transportation Corridor in Binh Dinh Province
The route has a total length of approximately 19.5 km and is designed to Class III plain road standards, comprising two motorized lanes and two non-motorized lanes. It passes through An Nhon Town, Tay Son District, and Van Canh District. Upon completion, the project reduces the travel distance from the intersection of National Highway 19 (Km27+250) and Provincial Road DT.638 (Km120+825) in Nhon Tan Commune (An Nhon Town) to the center of the Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Industrial – Urban – Service Complex from 31.5 km to just 16.5 km. This significantly improves traffic efficiency and contributes to regional socio-economic development.
The project consists of three main construction packages:
- Package XL01: Construction of roadbed, pavement, drainage works, and lighting systems from Km0+000 to Km8+000.
- Package XL02: Construction of roadbed, pavement, drainage works, and lighting systems from Km8+000 to Km12+945.
- Package XL03: Construction of a branch road connecting to the southern bypass of Phu Phong Town, including roadbed, pavement, drainage works, and lighting systems.
Vinh Hung serves as the material supplier and installation contractor, delivering integrated slope stabilization and rockfall protection solutions using high-tensile steel mesh combined with rock anchors (HR30), together with polymer-based triaxial geogrid systems for erosion control. Project implementation commenced in March 2024.

Package XL01 includes five slope treatment locations.
Completed slope stabilization, rockfall protection, and erosion control solutions at KM7+200.
For erosion control, polymer-coated triple-twist steel mesh was installed across the entire stabilized soil slope surface. This solution reinforces the slope face, prevents surface erosion, and creates favorable conditions for vegetation growth, supporting long-term slope greening and environmental integration.
To enhance traffic safety and protect road users, high-tensile steel mesh systems combined with rock anchors were installed to stabilize exposed rock faces and mitigate rockfall risks. The system utilizes steel anchors with a diameter of 32 mm, drilled to an average depth of 5.1 meters in accordance with design specifications. The anchors are embedded into stable geological strata and fully grouted with cement mortar, achieving a minimum compressive strength of grade C30.
The solutions implemented by Vinh Hung are flexible, soft-engineering systems that can adapt to a wide range of slope geometries without adding significant structural loads. The open mesh structure allows natural drainage, prevents the buildup of groundwater pressure, and eliminates the need for additional drainage systems.
The steel mesh is treated with specialized anti-corrosion coatings, ensuring a service life of up to 50 years, depending on site conditions.
Maintenance and repair are straightforward: after extended service periods, damaged sections can be easily replaced with new mesh panels. Notably, the rapid installation process does not require heavy machinery, minimizing construction time and avoiding disruption to traffic operations along the route.
To date, the main works under packages XL01, XL02, and XL03 have been substantially completed. In the coming period, Vinh Hung will continue implementing additional works at selected sections of Package XL01.
