STARTING METRO LINE NO. 1 HCMC (BEN THANH - SUOI TIEN)

Station 6 (Thao Dien) will connect directly to Thao Dien Pearl by a short flyover.
After completing and putting into operation, this tram line will meet the increasing traffic demand in Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to promoting the economic growth of the area and reducing the environmental pollution.
To obtain capital for the project, the Government signed two agreements to borrow 65.1 billion yen from JICA (Japan). This agency will provide follow-up loans to the project based on actual implementation progress.
The entire Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line is 19.7 km long, passing through District 1, Binh Thanh, District 2, District 9, Thu Duc, and Di An District (Binh Duong), with a total investment of 236 billion yen (equivalent to 47,000 billion VND). The expected completion time is in 2017, put into operation in 2018.
At the signing ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Huu Tin assigned districts with Metro lines passing through, by September 2012, the site must be handed over to the contractor to begin construction of the metro project No. 1 right in September 2012.
