COMMENCEMENT OF BORED PILE CONSTRUCTION – THE LARGEST WORK ITEM AT THE BINH PHUOC 1 BRIDGE PROJECT
The project, with a total investment of VND 110 billion, is funded by the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center and falls under Package No. 14: "Construction and Traffic Assurance During Construction", jointly implemented by Vinh Hung Construction Consulting Trading Joint Stock Company and Freyssinet Vietnam Co., Ltd.
The construction takes place in District 12 and Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, with an expected duration of 240 days, from February 14, 2025, to October 12, 2025.
Technical Solutions
To raise the clearance of Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge, the construction plan involves elevating the entire span by approximately 1.25 meters. At the same time, a bored pile foundation system will be added to enhance the load-bearing capacity of the existing abutments and piers. The height of these structural elements will also be increased using reinforced concrete to ensure long-term durability.
Advanced and innovative technologies are being applied to ensure construction safety, quality, and timely delivery. During bored pile construction, cracks in the existing bridge piers will be repaired and strengthened to improve overall structural integrity.
Construction in Complex Conditions
Vinh Hung has mobilized two separate bored pile construction fronts:
• One team is working from Ma Abutment to Pillar T4 on the District 12 side.
• Another underwater team is operating from Pillar T5 to Pillar T10.
Meanwhile, site clearance is still pending on the Thu Duc City side. Construction is further complicated by challenging geological conditions and the need to maintain traffic flow throughout the project duration.
After completing the bored pile item, the contractor will proceed with the construction of the jacking beam. Once the jacking beam is completed, the Freyssinet Vietnam joint venture will carry out the bridge clearance raising by 1.25 meters. Next, Vinh Hung will construct new pier cap beams, perform jacking to transfer the load to the new piles, build the two approach roads, ensure traffic flow, and complete the project for handover to the investor.
Although the total investment is relatively modest, the Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge Clearance Raising Project is of great strategic importance to the region’s transportation infrastructure.
Upon completion, the bridge will meet the minimum 7-meter clearance standard for bridges over the Saigon River, aligning it with other regional structures. This will facilitate inland waterway development, enhancing port access and operational efficiency in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Tay Ninh.
The project not only upgrades transportation connectivity but also supports regional economic growth, contributing to the sustainable development strategy of the city and its neighboring provinces.
