Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway project more than halfway through
The project includes the construction of an 8.5-kilometer toll road connecting Cebu City to Cordova in Mactan Island. Its centerpiece is a twin pylon cable-stayed bridge that will cross over the Mactan Channel, with a 390m span and a 51m clearance above the water. Other key elements in the project are the viaducts connecting the existing roads to the main bridge and a causeway over the shallow water area.
Once it is open, CCLEX will provide a safe, fast and scenic passage to an estimated 50,000 vehicles per day, improving local traffic and boosting trade activities in the region. The completion of the works is expected by the end of 2021, the year in which is celebrated 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines, referenced in the project with eight 40m-high-crosses at the pylons, and the 500th anniversary of the world's first circumnavigation, achieved by the Magellan-Elcano Spanish expedition, in which the Philippines had a key role.
