Thang Long bridge repair project has a total investment of more than 269 billion VND, expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Vinh Hung is honored to be selected as the contractor to construct many important items such as: repairing, replacing expansion joints, guarding system; cleaning the deck; paint to protect steel structures; ... Hopefully, after many efforts of both investors and contractors, Thang Long Bridge will be put on a new, sustainable appearance to be a typical project of Hanoi capital.

Thang Long Bridge across the Red River was built in late 1974, completed in mid-1985. Thang Long Bridge has 2 floors shared by railway and road, in which the bridge for cars circulating on the 2nd floor, 16.5m wide car road section includes 4 lanes, width of sidewalk corridor is 2m. After being repaired in 2009, up to now, the road surface of the 2nd floor of Thang Long bridge has been severely damaged and undergoing an overhaul.

The total investment of the Thang Long bridge repair project is 269.3 billion VND from the Non-business expenditure source spent on road economic activities for the management of highway maintenance.

Mr. Nguyen Hoa, representative of Thang Long bridge repair contractor, said that :”The construction unit is reinforcing existing steel bridge surface, then welding steel anchor nails to steel faceplate and installing steel mesh. Then pouring a layer of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) has high compressive strength, high tensile strength, minimum thickness of 6cm. Finally, there is a carpet of polymer concrete layer above. The project is also to replace damaged expansion joints, repair the sidewalk, the drainage system and the traffic safety system.”

Mr. Nguyen Hoa also said, the work of peeling the bridge’s surface had completed about 80% of schedule. The work of removing orchids has also been completed about 80%. Currently, contractor is installing 2 canopies, expected to be completed on August 30.

Two "giant" concrete mixing plants have also completed the installation and are undergoing quality inspection, which is expected to be put into operation on September 15.

“According to previous technology, the steel surface has a very strong adhesive layer, the contractor had to peel away the old adhesive layer so the progress is a bit slow. We will try to speed up the progress to complete in the fourth quarter of 2020 ", Mr. Nguyen Hoa shared.

The contractor is installing 2 canopies, scheduled for completion on August 30th so that workers can work without worrying about the weather.

16 bus routes passing through Thang Long bridge will change to Nhat Tan bridge at the downstream of Thang Long bridge. Bus routes from My Dinh bus station, Yen Nghia will pass Nhat Tan bridge instead of Thang Long bridge. Vehicles carrying workers to work on both sides of the Red River also follow Nhat Tan Bridge. Motorcycles and rudimentary vehicles still go on the first floor of Thang Long bridge as usual.
