Description project
The South Commuter Railway Project (SCRP) is a major component of the North–South Commuter Railway Project (NSCR), a key transport infrastructure initiative in the Philippines.
The SCRP spans approximately 55 kilometers and includes 18 stations, comprising both elevated and ground-level stops. It is designed to serve hundreds of thousands of passengers daily, significantly reducing travel time from Manila to Calamba from 2.5 hours to just about 1 hour.
The project is financed through a USD 4.3 billion loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with co-financing from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the procurement of rolling stock and railway systems. The total estimated cost of the project is USD 6.4 billion, and it is scheduled for completion in 2028.
By 2040, the railway is expected to carry more than 600,000 passengers per day, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 284,000 tons annually, making it the most widely used, fast, and safe mode of public transportation in the country.
