The My Loi Bridge connecting Long An – Tien Giang will officially open technical traffic on 29th August 2015 after about 20 months of construction.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

On 26th August 2015, the representative of Project Management Board 7 (Ministry of Transport) – the investor of the My Loi bridge project (connecting Long An – Tien Giang) said that the bridge will officially open technical traffic on 29th August after about 20 months of construction.<\/span><\/p>\n

When My Loi Bridge comes into operation, people from Go Cong town (Tien Giang province) will be able to go to Ho Chi Minh City by road with a distance of about 25km, about 75km shortened compared to going through National Highway 1 and Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong expressway as before.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bridge with a length of more than 2.6km spanning Vam Co River (total spans of the bridge are more than 1.4km long) connecting national highway 50, Can Duoc district (Long An province) and Go Cong town (Tien Giang province) is invested in the form of BOT (Build – Operate – Transfer) with the total investment of more than 1,438 billion VND.<\/span><\/p>\n

The width of the bridge is 12m with 2 motorized lanes and 2 rudimentary lanes.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Project Management Board 7, 88.9 – kilometers National Highway 50 is a key route in the road traffic network connecting Ho Chi Minh City to the east coast of Long An, Tien Giang, and other provinces in the Mekong Delta and vice versa.<\/span><\/p>\n

The perspective of My Loi bridge when completed<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The transport route plays an important role in economic development and security and defense of the two provinces – Tien Giang, Long An – and the Mekong Delta region.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, national highway 50 has been upgraded and renovated in order to meet traffic demand in the area and to contribute to sharing traffic volume with national highway 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, at the section crossing the Vam Co river, so far, a ferry must be used to transport vehicles across the river.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a major obstacle, which causes delay and limitation of traffic capacity on the whole route and limits the socio-economic development of neighboring areas. In addition, the access to the ferry is narrow, and traffic congestion often occurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, the investment in the construction of the My Loi bridge project to replace the existing ferry terminal is essential in order to completely connect national highway 50, facilitate socio-economic development and enhance national security and defense in coastal provinces in the Mekong Delta region and in Ho Chi Minh City.<\/span><\/p>\n

Formerly, people who wanted to go from Ho Chi Minh City and Long An to Go Cong town, Tien Giang had to take a detour nearly 100km away or take the My Loi ferry, which took a lot of time.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
